Story and history

It is one of the old, historic mosques of Madinah, dating back to the time of the Prophet ﷺ. It is also known as Masjid Musbih. It is said that the Prophet ﷺ was checking on one of his Companions from Bani Unayf, Talhah ibn al-Bara' (may Allah be pleased with him), who was ill, and that he performed ablution (wudu) and prayed at this spot, and so the mosque was built where he had prayed. Its walls were recently given a new covering and distinctive lighting was added, while its historic architectural character was preserved: it is built of black volcanic stone (harrah, the stone of the local lava fields).

Virtue of visiting

It has no special, established virtue like that of Quba Mosque. But visiting it and remembering the mark the Prophet ﷺ left on this place are regarded as acts of following his example and of finding comfort in his noble traces.
